What events in Paul's life show him in the role as a hero for God?

Mole: Paul endured many trials in his journey to fulfill God's purpose for his life, yet he kept pressing on.

Scene 2 (close-up of ROBO)
ROBO: Could you tell us about some of the trials Paul had to endure? I heard that he was even imprisoned.

Scene 3 (Paul preaching from platform)
Paul was thrown into prison many times for preaching the truth about Jesus.

Scene 4 (Paul preaching, with scroll in hand, on platform with Roman columns)
Paul was called by the Lord to preach the Gospel to his fellow Jews, and also to the Gentiles.

Scene 5 (ROBO and Mole)
Mole: On one such occasion, both Paul and his partner Silas were thrown into prison for casting an evil spirit out of a servant girl in Philippi.

ROBO: Why would they be thrown into prison for performing such a good service?

Scene 6 (servant girl, using crystal ball, with owner standing beside her)
The evil spirit gave the girl the ability to predict the future, and her owners had been making money from her fortune-telling.

Scene 7 (ROBO and Mole)
ROBO: So, they were upset when their source of income was taken from them.

Mole: Exactly. They were concerned about their loss of income, while Paul was concerned with the girl's soul and her deliverance.

ROBO: Being concerned for another person's well-being is a sign of a true hero.

Scene 8 (servant girl with Paul and Silas)
The girl had been following Paul and Silas around, and Paul turned to her and commanded the evil spirit to leave her ... and it did.

Paul: In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!

Scene 9 (close-up of ROBO)
ROBO: The girl's owners had Paul and Silas thrown into prison for that?

Scene 10 (Paul and Silas in prison cell, with their feet in stocks, and with a guard standing near the door)
They accused Paul and Silas of 'throwing the city into an uproar.' After flogging them, the city authorities threw them into prison and had their feet fastened in the stocks.

Scene 11 (Paul and Silas in cell singing, hands raised, eyes closed)
As Paul and Silas were in their cell, in the inner part of the prison, they began to sing praises to the Lord while the other prisoners listened.

Scene 12 (ROBO and Mole)
ROBO: They actually sang praises while in prison?

Mole: They did not let their circumstances affect their gratitude toward God.

ROBO: That is certainly a sign of faith and trust in God.

Mole: It sure is.

Scene 13 (Paul and Silas in cell, stocks opened, and door opened)

As they sang, the Lord caused a violent earthquake which shook the prison's foundation. All the doors opened and all the prisoners' chains came loose.

Scene 14 (ROBO and Mole)
ROBO: Wow! So, they all ran out and escaped at that point?

Mole: Actually, no.

Scene 15 (Paul and Silas, still in the cell. The guard looking around the door into the cell)
The guard was about to kill himself because he thought all the prisoners had escaped ...

Paul: Don't harm yourself! We are all here!
Scene 16 (close-up of guard)
Guard: Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

Scene 17 (guard kneeling in prayer, with Paul standing beside him)

Paul: Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved ...

They led him and his entire family to salvation in Jesus.

Scene 18 (ROBO and Mole)
Mole: Because of their persistent faith and obedience to God, they were able to accomplish a great purpose for the Lord.

ROBO: Both Paul and Silas proved themselves to be heroes for the Lord.

Scene 19 (Paul standing, with hands and head in wooden stocks)
As Paul travelled around from city to city, he faced many other tribulations - beatings, stonings, court trials, a shipwreck, and even people trying to kill him.

Scene 20 (Paul preaching, with scroll in hand)
Yet, he never gave up and kept on preaching and teaching about salvation through faith in Jesus.

Scene 21 (close-up of ROBO)
ROBO: Where can we learn more about Paul's journeys and his other trials? Especially the shipwreck. I would like to learn more about that.

Scene 22 (Paul chained to soldier, standing on deck of a ship)
You can find those accounts in the book of Acts in the Bible. The account of the shipwreck is in Acts 27 - 28. It is a very exciting story, and a great example of Paul's faith and obedience to God's direction.

That story also shows how Paul encouraged others to trust God in the midst of a very scary situation.

Scene 23 (Paul at a table in a jail cell, writing with a feather quill)
Other chapters in the book of Acts tell of Paul's other experiences, as well as those of other heroes for God. Paul wrote many of the other books in the New Testament, even some while he was in prison. We can learn much more about his obedience to God's call in those books as well.

Scene 24 (ROBO and Mole)
ROBO: I can see why you chose Paul as your favorite Bible hero. He is a great example of faithful and brave obedience to God.

Mole: I hope this interview will encourage my fellow Christians to press on and keep obeying the call of God, no matter how hard it seems to get, and no matter what obstacles they face. As Paul said in Phil. 4:13, 'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.'

";
